Get Into the Darkness A Little

At this time of the year my morning walk is done mostly in the dark. The time change on Sunday morning will help a little, but that won't last as the darkest time of the year is upon us soon. This morning, I thought of how much better the lamps, we know them as streetlights, work in the darkness. Therefore, I thought that we should get into the darkness a bit more to let our light shine brighter. Of course, you will know that this is an illusion. The lights do not work any less if they are on during they day, they are simply overwhelmed by the sunlight.

We already walk in the darkness of the world. The light of Christ shining in us is obvious to those around us. In the darkness, the light given by Christ appears to shine brighter. But, we do not have to walk into a sinner's palace to make the light seem brighter still. You or I may be called to invade such a place with a message of hope and light, but we don't need to seek out such places.

This present darkness is more than enough to make our lights shine. When Jesus returns, our little lights will still shine on, but they will be overwhelmed by the Son-light. While we look forward to that first day of our Lord's reign, we will be shining our lights into some dark places right where we work and play.
