Taking A Stand

Good morning as yet another 'bigger' person falls into scandal and drags a few others into the mud with him. It seems as though there is nothing quite like a position of trust these days to get a person into the worst sort of sin. It's a government problem this time, but the next may be a church, or a corporation, or right here in a small town. When the temptation to sin strikes, we may want to remember that all that is hidden will be revealed... not my foretelling, our Lord tells of this in Mark 10:26.

"Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known."

Just before that verse, Jesus speaks of those who are persecuted. We may wonder why those powerful disciples in Acts did not take a stand right there in Jerusalem. They raised the dead, spoke in boldness and the power of the Holy Spirit, and healed in miraculous ways, yet they fled when persecuted. Ah, but they had marching orders from the Lord! In Mark 10:23, Jesus said, "When they persecute you in this city, flee to another."

At times we may need to take a stand, but the Lord provided for the spread of His gospel in a manner that seems a bit cowardly to us. One thing we learn in military service is that what 'seems' does not matter when the order is given. Many things that we believe seem foolish to the world. Do you want to give up eternal life to seem wise by the world's standard? I didn't think so. In the end, when the power of the Antichrist is at its peak, believers will flee, stand, or fight depending upon their orders from God. The important part is not which action seems heroic or cowardly to us, but in obeying the command of our Lord. Take a stand to obey Jesus today!
