January 5, 2007

Good morning, let the glory of the Lord shine upon us! Cats and dogs are much like children in their knowledge of time. Everything is now. Sometimes we might envy them as we worry about tomorrow; knowing well that Jesus told us not to do that. We have been given human brains to think with and a soul to fly above the small worries of the day. Turning our eyes to Jesus allows our soul to fly above the mud and muck of daily life. Thinking of Jesus allows our brain to rest from the constant noise of the time on earth. By noise I mean the sensory overload we experience much too often in life. If you live in a household with a spouse and several children you know even better than I about the sensory overload of life. Work places have become notorious for demanding too much in too little time from all of us. Driving somewhere is no longer a good way to relax; the amount of traffic and the price of vehicles and fuel has given us more worries. Relax with a good movie? You will probably see someone or something blown up, crashed, wrecked, shot, or otherwise hurt or destroyed. Where is the answer to all of this? Jesus and the Word of God is the answer to life’s pressure. Take the time to read in the Word daily. Spare some time at work for a walk outside with a friend. Breathe deep and meditate on Jesus for a few minutes. If your work day is like a barn flattened by a tornado, shelled by an artillery battery, and then run over by a train, you might want to try some more Jesus in your day. We can gain the comfort of the Holy Spirit at any time, simply by asking.

May God grant you His peace.
