January 13, 2007

Good cold morning to you! I checked and winter is still very much here. Ice flows on the windows speak of some serious cold outside, but the fresh snowfall is very beautiful to look at. Praise God for the warmth of our homes today. Sorry to tell you this, but it is 10ยบ warmer in Fairbanks, AK right now. We love the people of Fairbanks even though we probably don’t know a single one of them. Love like that is something the world simply cannot understand. Oh, it will throw the word out there; a star might gush how he or she loves the fans, while the bars, fences, gates, and alarms of his or her mansion send a different message. Let the warmth of a Holy Spirit-led heart show the world what love really is. Individuals yearn to make a difference in the world, but Jesus did make a difference. He did not just talk or dream about it; he made changes unlike any person before or since. Through you and I, he can make changes to the world of one or more people. Perhaps a neighbor, a friend, a relative, or a complete stranger, any one of them can be encouraged by a smile or an honest “how are you this fine day?” Many desire an ear that will listen and a heart that will hear what they are saying. You do not have to be a bold door knocker to reach people for Christ. Jesus may have given you a talent for listening; perhaps people come to you with their problems without an invitation. Thank God for that gift and ask for his wisdom that you might ease their burden for a time until they can cast it at the foot of the cross.
It is not surprising to me that when I start writing about the love of Jesus that I feel more and more of his love myself. You just cannot give out the love of Jesus without receiving more in return. When we give of our time and money, we often hear that little whisper from the old nature about how we could be doing something else or spending the money on fun, but in giving love there is nothing for that old sin nature to counter with. Our sin nature and the devil himself cannot comprehend the love of Christ since it goes directly against pride. You cannot be full of love and pride at the same time. I speak of that pride which would have us set ourselves in God’s rightful place, the sin of the devil. You might be full of love for your child and be proud of the child’s accomplishment at the same time. The pride that says, “I am God” does not allow for love and certainly does go before the fall. There is only one God and his place is not one that any of us are qualified to stand in. God, our Father in heaven, whom none of us can ever match or replace in any way, whom none of us can truly comprehend or understand, loves us completely. Rest in that thought for today!

God loves you and so do I!
