Good morning, yes it is still quite cold out here and snowy as well. I hear this morning that Dr. Kennedy suffered a heart attack on Dec. 28th and is recovering. Almost daily, if we care to see it, we are reminded of how fragile and short this life is. I do not doubt that Dr. Kennedy hoped this event would be his orders to come home to be with Jesus forever. Just as all of us hope to go home soon, he may be a bit disappointed that this was not “it”. Only a little more than a year ago we saw Dr. Rogers called home and just a couple of months ago an auto accident nearly claimed a young lady near to us. The media delights in reporting deaths worldwide of people whom we do not know on more than a daily basis; now that we live with the speed of the Internet and 24 hour news channels. Often one of the most depressing facts of this life is our powerlessness to ease the suffering of death and injury… or so it seems to the world. In Christ, we know that is not a fact at all. We have direct line to the sovereign Lord of all Creation. Any time, any place, we can pray to the Father in heaven for those we love, even the ones we do not know. The Bible tells us that the prayer of a righteous man has great power. The Bible uses “man” in this case as short for “human” so that includes all of us! “Wait a minute,” you might say, “I cannot claim to be a righteous person.” No, none of us can claim that on our own, but God imputes the righteousness of Jesus Christ to all of us, that is how we are saved. We certainly cannot arrive in heaven on our own merits, not one of us. Claim the righteousness of Christ by following him and send up those prayers for each other and those we love!
Praise God for the power of prayer!
