God Will Give Me Justice

Let's hope not; I would much rather have salvation and grace! For the downtrodden and persecuted it may seem the statement of the week, "God will give me justice." We are of course speaking of the downtrodden and persecuted in Hollywood movies. While the prayer sounds good on the surface, what a person means when praying that line is: God will give me justice... by executing vengeance on that other fellow until I am satisfied. Jesus gave us a different way:

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. Matthew 5:44

It is tough for us; the flesh yearns for vengeance when we perceive an injury or wrongdoing to ourselves or those we love. We would much rather think of ourselves as good and justice that which happens to the other person. Those are the easy ways; the ways we were born into in this world. The way of Christ is of course much more difficult, to the point of impossible for us to do alone.

Praise God that alone was never what Jesus intended for us.

In Christ the Lord,
Bucky
