“Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” 1 Kings 3:9
A person comes to me with a problem and I want to be the hero of the circumstance, and so I immediately begin designing a solution for them. How can I hope to do this without first having an understanding heart? Solomon answered the Lord in wisdom, and the king is famous for his response in the Bible. The Spirit of the Lord had to be at work in Solomon already for him to have this sort of answer in his heart. For everyone from the moment Adam and Eve took the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil has thought in his or her heart that we know good from evil. And yet, wisdom is shown in Solomon in that he asks of the Lord to make him able to discern between good and evil. There is wisdom, a request for an understanding heart and humility before the Lord.
Great was the Spirit of the Lord in Solomon!
