Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Do you feel a little like that Grinch fellow from the animated show? The darkness at this time of the year and the overflow of holiday spirit can get to some folks and cause a certain irritation. They may come to resent the Christmas season. Paul chips in by telling us in the scriptures that love does not do that. Great, now I'm in trouble with the law of love too? Take a deep breath, rest easy dear self, Paul was not laying down another law. Had the former Pharisee wanted to plant more laws he could have brought out a few of the hundreds of 'traditions' the Pharisees had added to the law of Moses. No, the first thing that we do is to remember that love goes with God and that though we may get down a bit God's love does not look at us with irritation or resentment. We recall too that any time we need some growing of the fruit of the Spirit, we have only to ask that our love or patience or kindness be grown some during this time of the year.
Rejoice in the One who loves us!
