And he answered him, “It is I. Go, tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’ " 1 Kings 18:8
This sort of thing can only be done by someone whose name is known, at the very least known to this master. The pomp that appears in this verse shows us that this name is known far and wide though. If I walked up to the White House in Washington D.C. and stated my name in just this fashion, it would likely not get beyond the front door without some form of derisive laughter. Even if I tried to use Elijah's name, it wouldn't work as so many have been named after the prophet in the years since that time. However, in this time and place in the scriptures, Elijah the prophet of God had a name that carried a ton of weight. At this particular time in scripture though, the name of the Lord and His prophet was about to carry a lot more weight in Israel as Elijah was here to call out the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah to a little contest on Mt. Carmel. And we know where that went! There is however a name that is known even more than Elijah's.
Rejoice in the name of the Lord Jesus, He has a name that is known!
