All this is for the transgression of Jacob And for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what are the high places of Judah? Are they not Jerusalem? Micah 1:5
A fundraising letter came and stated that in the past I had been one of their strongest supporters, and then suggested some support options for me. Sorry, the minister said that I cannot live in the past anymore!
May I learn from the past though? Yes of course, and if we take a look at this verse for today, we see much to learn. This learning is especially necessary for those who have not read the Bible. There are several names, imagine that you had not heard any of them before this verse. Confusion? Sure, but there is also mention of transgression and sin. It seems that this one, person or place, is the transgression of this fellow Jacob. What the writer probably means is the one is evidence of this transgression of the law the other has done. It would seem that this Jacob fellow has left a trail of his transgression.
Paul once told us that all have sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard. (Rom 3:23) This sin leaves a trail that points right to each of us. This is why the Lord erases this entire record by the sacrifice of His Son Jesus. Without the justice paid for by our Lord's Son, all He would see is each of us followed by this gross slime trail following along behind. That is why the next three verses from Paul speak of what the Lord did to fix our slimy mess. The next time we are reminded of that infamous Romans 3:23, let us all go read 3:24-26 too. How do we earn this reprieve in those three verses? Can't earn it, but we are given it by just what it says: faith in Jesus!
Have a graceful weekend, you have been redeemed in Christ!
