We read in the great psalm about the valley of death's shadow, but do we know how common is the temptation to lay down in the dark place? Weary and overwhelmed by the world, we often want the Lord to let us lay down our burden in the dark place and then to allow us to fall down beside it. If only He would take us up from there, we think, to our eternal rest with Him.
The laying down time will come for us, but it is not of our choosing. We committed ourselves to Jesus and He leads us on. And it isn't all bad, so often when that feeling comes upon one of His sheep, the Good Shepherd reaches down to lift up that faltering one. His helping hand can come in many ways, but it is always good. That holy hand may seem rough and calloused to us at times, but He has had a lot of sheep to help along in that dark valley of death's shadow.
Peter saw the light in a dark place, and we will not be forgotten by Him either. "And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts." (2 Peter 1:19) Beautiful! Let the Bright and Morning Star rise in your heart today!
Get a boost from the Lord at the end of a weary week,
Bucky
