As whirlwinds in the South pass through, So it comes from the desert, from a terrible land. A distressing vision is declared to me; The treacherous dealer deals treacherously, And the plunderer plunders. Go up, O Elam! Besiege, O Media! All its sighing I have made to cease. Isaiah 21:1-2
It would appear to us that Isaiah was not particularly thrilled to receive this vision. The prophet may have hoped for some more of that good news of Immanuel and the great light in the darkness, but he was given a distressing vision. This is of course not a good news-bad news thing, but a good news-warnings difference.
Though we long for more of the good news from the scriptures, it remains to be read by us that much of the Bible holds warnings for those who do not believe and obey. There is no good news in the end for those who refuse to believe what God says. How do you like it when someone counts everything you say as a lie with all proof pointing to the contrary? God's proof of His truthfulness is greater by far than yours and mine, so we can imagine how He must feel to be called liar with every denial of so many of His creations.
And, we might just have a small insight into the joyous celebrations that take place in Heaven each time one of us believes what the Lord has said by His Word! Amen.
