Lord of the Sabbath

And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”  Mark 2:27-28

The Pharisees had cornered Jesus, or so they thought, and caught His disciples violating the Sabbath. In response, Jesus went there, yes right to one of the heroes of Israel, David. First the Pharisees' scriptural knowledge was thumped, "Have you never read...", then one of their religious and national heroes testified against them from scripture. And finally, Jesus gives these Pharisees a chance to believe in Him, saying that He, the Son of Man, is also Lord of the Sabbath, which is God. From the Pharisee stories to come in the gospels, I guess they didn't repent and follow Him.

However, Jesus also tried to turn around the Pharisees' concept of the Sabbath. But wait, isn't the Sabbath one of the big ten commandments? It is, and it has what looks like the longest explanation with it. Long enough to take up this another day.

To the Lord's Word we go!
